BBC Countryfile Nightingales – Anglian Water

Early morning filming for BBC Countryfile

Getting up at 2am is never fun, but something I had to do on this shoot. I travelled to Grafham Water, southwest of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire to film a ‘back up’ VT for the BBC’s ‘Countryfile’ programme.

Anglian Water has one of the UK’s most threatened songbirds, the nightingale, nesting at our Grafham Water reservoir in Cambridge. They are part of a project along with the BTO and the Beds, Cambs and Northants Wildlife Trust to tag these tiny songsters so we can track their progress on migration between our reservoir and their wintering grounds in Africa.

I filmed the tagging process which had to be carried out at 4:30am – the perfect time for these beautiful wild birds.

Anglian Water hope that this five-year project will reveal vital clues to help conservationists save this species before it disappears entirely.
