Bluebell Woods, Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk

A hidden woodland carpeted in blue every spring

Just a short walk from the coast and close to the James Paget Hospital lies one of Gorleston’s best-kept seasonal secrets. Every spring, the woodland floor transforms into a sea of vibrant bluebells, creating one of the most photogenic natural locations in Norfolk.

As a local videographer, I’ve filmed across East Anglia & the UK for more than three decades, but this small woodland remains one of my favourite places to slow down and appreciate nature.

Its winding paths, mature trees and changing light make it a wonderful location for walking, photography and simply escaping the busy pace of everyday life.

Filming with Nick Acheson

For this short film I invited the brilliant naturalist and conservationist Nick Acheson – who I have worked on many video productions for the likes of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust – to explore Bluebell Woods and share his enthusiasm for Norfolk’s wildlife and landscapes.

Rather than simply showcasing beautiful images, the video captures the atmosphere and quiet character of this special place, reminding us how valuable these pockets of woodland are for both wildlife and people.
